Ok so I am seriously disturbed with what I saw on the news tonight. Apparently the HBO series "Big Love" is going to be airing an episode that talks about the LDS rituals of the temple. I heard that an excommunicated member gave the information to the show and they filmed some of the actual events that take place in the temple. First of all I think the show is ridiculous enough as it is and it already bothers me that they think that Mormons still practice pologamy. It just seems like a really stupid concept for a show. Second of all, I really don't like that they are trying to reinact something that is so sacred to me. They have no business doing so! HBO has apologized if they have offended any members, but say that the episode is critical to the story. I think that is a load of crap. They wouldn't even have the information if it wasn't given to them, and they would have had to come up with something else for the story. Why not do that now? It just upsets me to think that not only is the church being portrayed wrongfully with the basic story of the show, which I think is bad enough, but now they have to reveal sacred things about our church on National Television! And I found out the Tom Hanks produces the show which just makes me even more upset because I really like him. Anyway, I will get off my soap box now but I just had to vent. It just makes me sad to see what upset people can do. I guess all I can do is have faith in my beliefs and power through :) Oh and on a side note, I can't honestly believe that 3 women would want to, not only be married to Bill Paxton, but share him. I mean he was ok looking when he was younger, but now he really just doesn't do it for me.

I've been bothered by this show ever since I heard about it. This whole business about the temple is so frustrating, but we just have to let HBO know what we feel. There are groups against this on facebook and via email. I will forward the email to you. Keep up the soapbox, that's how we change things:).

I heard about this today at work too! What is the deal people? Some people need to get a life and stop trying to ruin anything that is good and sacred. I hate that.

That was a pretty stupid move by HBO but from the looks of it, the Church would rather ignore the show than make an even bigger deal about it so that's good. I like how in control they are about everything that goes on in the world, it makes me feel better knowing that they always know what to do. :)
I have been a big fan of Big Love for awhile now. I watched the first two seasons and thought it was well written, hilarious, and spot on about a lot of LDS stereotypes. Honestly, the show was so interesting I watched the whole first season in a week!
That being said, after last Sundays episode I don't feel I can watch it in good conscience. I almost feel like this third season they really are trying to "stick it to the mormons". The first two seasons weren't like that at all. It's too bad, I really loved the show.
